OK, first ever review...brought this little machine to replace a 19'' dual core 1.67 Hz laptop which had died. Had this for about 2 weeks now and used it for uni work and general surfing.
Overall this is a fantastic piece of kit. Well put together, does exactly what it says on the tin. I got rid of the pre-loaded software straight away, but kept xp. Installed Chrome, Winamp and VLC and it has run without a hitch. MATLAB installed and ran very fast. Connection to home wireless network was straight forward - just enter WEP key - and download/surfing speeds have been fine.
I have got used to the keyboard straight away, except the up and down keys being split in half and squeezed into one space. Not a real issue though. The matt screen is perfect in every lighting as far as im concerned and would now not buy anything else.
The sound from headphones is very good quality from such a cheap machine.
The best bit is the battery life, which...

I bought this Netbook because I have an HP 17" Laptop and its too big to use in a car or on an airplane, etc.
I was a bit apprihensive about which one to buy and if Netbooks were any good, also I thought that the 10" display may be too small, how ever when I used the 1001P I was so supprised how good it is. It starts up in no time, the battery lasts about 8 hours depending on usage (1001P has larger battery than some other 1001 models) and it works faster that my £600 HP Laptop.
Also the mouse pad is great, to scroll up/Down or Left/Right just put two fingers on the mouse pad and drag which way you want and to rotate just use two fingers and twist them around on the mouse pad, after a week its just natural to do it.
Also there is a second power button that starts the Netbook up in a special mode for the internet, email, skype etc. You can be surfing the net in a few seconds.
As with all Netbooks there so no CD/DVD...

Ok, stop reading this review, click on buy now before these are all gone.
Right, now you've got one, I'll tell you what you have got. A real beauty. This net top looks classy, both with the lid closed and with it open. Performance, it is turbo charged for a net book (runs XP) - with security suite (Trend Micro) working it boots into the desk top in 45 seconds, with a working IE8 in just over the minute. Want to just surf the net faster? Use the top left start button to boot you into a Linux (I presume) running what appears to be Firefox in under 10 secs from switched off state.
There is very little crapware installed, so no spending ages uninstalling pointless programmes. The battery? I reckon I've just got 7 hours on the first charge, which included using Windows Update, leaving screen on the whole time, and doing a defrag.
Disc is partitioned into 2 main drives (c and D) plus two hidden re the linux boot and recovery. There seems...
